Briar proposed we start a blog to document our paper trail, for our final assignment. We each deliberated on the topic we should further develop and we all come to the conclusion to go with Lauren's idea of The White Feather and the comparison between this movement and women's suffrage during WW1. We chose this idea because Lauren left her proposal quite open and broad, we liked the idea we could expand on her ideas and research the topic further. The fact we are a group of all females mean we can all make a strong connection to this topic and the irony of the comparison between these two positions of women during the war.

Lauren titled her proposal White Feathers and Suffrage, which introduces the two main aspects of women in the war that we are interested in. We are also want to further Lauren's research on Vesta Tilley's stories, she had involvement with initiating The White Feather movment as it began as part of her shows where she played a male impersonator. When Lauren began researching her initial idea was exploring the suffragettes involvement in the war, she came across Vesta Tilley's story by coincidence and was immediately taken by it and wanted to include it in her proposal so this leaves room for the whole group to expand on Lauren's research.

The White Feather movement was used to recruit men who were unwilling to enlist in the Army, the White Feathers were a symbol of cowardice and were handing to these men by women. This gave women an enormous amount of power and makes both an intriguing and ironic comparison between women's roles during WW1. While the women who were suffering for the right to vote (suffragettes) had no choice but to stand up and fill working roles that were traditionally mens work, the women who were involved with the white feather movement held incredible power over men.
